About The England Influence

I started The England Influence for one main reason- leadership is hard. And while corporations have spent countless dollars and hours investing in leadership development, we are still missing the mark in many areas. Employees get promoted because they are good at certain skills, and often, that skillset has little correlation to what’s needed at the next level.  I have been in a formal leadership position since I was 23 years old. My leadership career started in the basement of a hospital on night shift as a rookie Respiratory Therapist who took the “Team Lead” role because I thought I could do it better than anyone else. Little did I know that charisma (a trait that comes easily for me)- is not leadership, and it would be many years before I understood how to harness and deploy my talents……

I recognized a need for a concept like The England Influence early in my regional level management role. When I started hiring Campus Directors (business unit leaders in the technical education space), I expected that six-figure employees who had been managing entire schools would know the role and be able to lead people, and I was wrong in most cases. What I realized (after my first hire did not work out at all) was that leadership is earned, not bought, and some pieces of it can’t even be taught.

How can we ensure that our companies (or ourselves as individuals), are learning the necessary skills to be prepared for the “next level?” We start with the understanding that leadership is not a destination. It’s a lifelong journey of learning that encompasses hard-skill development, soft-skill development and gained wisdom through experience. 

So how can we fast track leadership development? By implementing a system that addresses each stage of the leadership development process, while fostering a mentorship platform that aggressively supports the management structure.Whether you are a company focused on the training and development of your staff or an individual looking to grow your career, The England Influence can show you a process that combines leadership skills and technical skills to grow a workforce or an individual to their greatest potential.

The England Influence also specializes in campus management, and campus turnaround management. Over my career, I led five campuses from a net loss to a positive bottom line and have managed numerous Campus Presidents through the same process. This process can take anywhere from three months to one year, depending on the severity of the concerns within the business. There is a specific order of operations to follow when deploying the strategy to turn a campus, and over my 17-year career, I have gotten this process down to a 90-day calendar of events with action items, goals and timelines.  The England Influence has a passion for taking on any campus level challenge, from one department that needs overhauled to whole campus turns.
